Reading literature is actually GOOD for your brain!

I have heard at least one business expert claim that reading fiction is a waste of time!

Well, it would seem that scientific research proves that nothing could be further from the truth. According to the following article from Time, reading great literature, or even fiction in general, is actually good for the brain…

Raymond Mar, a psychologist at York University in Canada, and Keith Oatley, a professor emeritus of cognitive psychology at the University of Toronto, reported in studies published in 2006 and 2009 that individuals who often read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the world from their perspective.

Moreover, it appears that nothing replaces good old-fashioned physical books for this purpose. Digital ebooks are not as effective. It is not enough to read just for pragmatic reasons, or to skim online articles or Google results. You need the plain, old-fashioned, real-world reading! Here is the full article:
