Hi everyone, I have plans to move over, permanently, to the United States from the Middle East. I had been to the US before and know what to expect. However, as I am in my 40s I wonder if it is easy to start over, although I do not exactly plan to work full-time. I am mainly wary of the rushed life, and the materialistic mentality that is prevalent in the American sociey. I am a simple, free individual, who cherishes my own freedom, and would definitely want to live in a free country. What does anyone think are the drawbacks? I want to pursue a consistant spiritual life, at my own pace, without having to worry about being able to 'pay' my way toward that. I read in one of the posts, that one needs to be able to afford to live a 'spiritual' life. Can anyone clarify please? |

Hello, Is the USA the only option you are giving yourself? How about Europe? If you do go to USA, do you plan to apply for citizenship? There are both advantages and disadvantages to the USA. As for making a move in your forties, I left the UK for Italy when I was 39, and started afresh. I have been here for 2 years now and am doing just fine. I am sure you could do the same if you set your mind on it. Asoka |

There's only a "rushed life" in the big cities, and the big cities are not the entire country. I like small towns or rural, country areas. Tell you what, pick any state, according to what kind of climate that you might like, Then pick out the big cities of that (or those) state(s) and write to the City Hall of the city of that state, asking for information in regards to a POSSIBLE move you are considering. By SIMPLY asking for information you will get reams of what the area is like around and in the city and the state, of job opportunities, real estate available, rental services for everything, maps, restaurants and businesses, all SORTS of stuff. I wrote to ask about Texas, Virginia, Florida, and Georgia from when I had lived in New Jersey and was weighing out the best possible area to relocate, and each of these states' city halls sent oodles of info. Texas even sent free tickets to the then-still-extant Houston Astrodome. ASK. Ask the country(ies) government seats for information and/or the states thereof, and I am sure ye shall recieve! As for your age and making the move at all, ... age, in and of itself, is nothing. And humans have this thing about being adaptable...it's one of those things humans do!, we adapt very well. Consider that every day you awaken to is "starting over", each day! See?! You've adapted wonderfully! |
